Greetings and salutations! I am Emory Glass, a dark fantasy author, artist, and hobbyist worldbuilder. I am here to announce two important updates for Smunchy Games.
First is the formation of Tuskaar Press, Smunchy Games’ premier literature publishing entity. More information about Tuskaar Press will become available in the following weeks.
Second is the acquisition of Inkblood Book Company, a dark speculative fiction publishing house that is now an imprint of Tuskaar Press. I will serve Inkblood Book Company as its Publisher and Chief Editor.
About Inkblood Book Company
Inkblood Book Company’s mission is to support the publication of works deemed too risky, irreverent, or gritty for traditional avenues of Science Fiction and Fantasy publication; to put profits into the hands of the creative professionals who contribute to a manuscript’s publication; and to exist and operate in an environmentally friendly and sustainable manner.
Inkblood Book Company was first conceptualized in 2017 by myself when I was first looking for a home for my own stories. Having written several full-length novels, a handful of short stories, and a thirty-three-part flash fiction serial before and during my search, I was disappointed to find many available publishing options not to my liking. So, I decided to live the quote “Be the change you wish to see in the world” (Mahatma Gandhi) and start my own author-focused, story-centered press. It is my belief that Science Fiction and Fantasy that is not quite grimdark and not quite nobledark which takes risks, tackles heavy and important topics, and breaks the mold of what science fiction and fantasy “should” look like has an underserved market that merits further exploration for the sake of the readers and authors who enjoy such stories.
At Inkblood, we tell stories written in neither black nor white but many shades of grey. We provide readers with the most mold-breaking, risk-taking, earth-shaking dark fantasy and science fiction that we can find.
Our ideal stories take place in settings essentially dark in tone and mood, but those which can be changed—for better or for worse—with the characters’ best efforts. The impact of those efforts is entirely up to the individuals making them, however, and their intentions might not always be pure…
Inkblood Book Company is already open to submissions for The Fool’s Journey, an anthology of dark fantasy in which each story is inspired by a card from the tarot. It is projected for release next Halloween. The submission deadline is 30 June 2021 at midnight.
We will be opening to general submissions for dark fantasy and science fiction titles in Autumn 2021. Please see our website for more information about the kinds of submissions we will be seeking and our list of genres, tropes, and other things we will not accept.
Also in Autumn 2021, we will kickstart our biannual flash fiction contest, the prize for winning which is publication in our monthly newsletter, The Drop. More details about the contest will be available closer to the opening of submissions.
About the Publisher and Chief Editor
Emory Glass is a dark fantasy author, artist, and hobbyist worldbuilder. Her flash fiction collection THIRTY-THREE TALES OF WAR finished its run in Worldbuilding Magazine in December 2020 and is now available for free on her blog along with her web serials MARROW and FALL, SACRED APPLE.
A lifelong owner of a vivid imagination, Emory’s first literary love was epic fantasy. At age thirteen, she discovered epics of the gloomier variety and resolved to write her own series of dark fantasy stories: THE CHROMA BOOKS.
Alongside writing, Emory loves tea, learning Scottish Gaelic, and creating videos for her YouTube channel, WriterPunk. She is thrilled to be the Publisher and Chief Editor at Inkblood Book Company, an imprint of Tuskaar Press. You can find her @TheChromaBooks on Twitter and Instagram.
